Citation Verification
Assess a factual claim against the specific evidence you provide, then review the verdict, rationale, and evidence excerpt.
Submit a claim for assessment
- Enter one specific factual claim in the claim field.
- Paste the relevant source text or evidence excerpt into the supporting evidence field.
- Submit the form and wait for the assessment.
- Review the verdict, rationale, and any evidence excerpt returned.
- Compare the assessment with the original source before using it in a decision or publication.
The interface accepts claims up to 2,000 characters and evidence up to 12,000 characters. Supply evidence relevant to the exact claim rather than a broad collection of unrelated text.
What the verdicts mean
- Supported
- The supplied evidence directly supports the material parts of the claim.
- Unsupported
- The supplied evidence does not support the claim. That is not, by itself, proof that the claim is false.
- Contradicted
- The supplied evidence directly conflicts with a material part of the claim.
- Uncertain
- The evidence is insufficient, ambiguous, or mixed.
Review the rationale and excerpt
The rationale explains the assessment. The evidence excerpt, when returned, identifies a relevant portion of the supplied text. If no exact excerpt is returned, review the complete evidence manually. An excerpt is not a substitute for checking the original source and its context.
Important limitations
- The assessment is AI-generated and may be wrong.
- The result is limited to the evidence supplied; it does not establish that the evidence is authentic, current, or complete.
- For high-impact claims, verify the original source and seek appropriate expert review.
- A verdict should not be treated as ground truth or as a replacement for human judgment.
